A popular tourist destination, Hanging Lake was nearly loved to death by visitors. A permit system was established to allow a designated number of hikers in for enjoyment. The trailhead can be accessed via Glenwood Canyon. Rocky and steep, the trail passes along Deadhorse Creek, a tributary of the Colorado River, then leads hikers to the lake which was created by a unique “fault” long ago. Hope Pass, Colorado – 4.25″ x 4.25″ Ceramic Coaster $8.00 Each Hope Pass, or “Hopeless” as some ultra-marathoners like to call it, features 20+ miles of grueling trail running on part of the Colorado Trail near Leadville in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Known for an exercise in endurance along the LT100 circuit, the trail climbs high from Willis Gulch to 12,500 ft. With a net elevation gain of 3203 ft, the LT 100 loop is followed by a welcome descent yet requires another accent back over the pass before returning down the trail to the town of Twin Lakes.
